US East Coast braces for Hurricane Irene.
At the moment, Hurricane Irene is forecasted to be a powerful Category 3 hurricane. It is currently traveling in the vicinity of the Bahamas and is projected to move towards and up the East Coast starting Friday and throughout the weekend. Many East Coast ports have issued warnings of possible shutdowns, depending on the course that the hurricane will take. Various shipping terminals have enacted their hurricane preparedness operations plans in order to be ready for the storm should it hit any of the ports serviced. Strong winds and flooding have the possibility to create transportation delays and cargo damage in areas surrounding the hurricane’s path.
Regarding transportation schedules, due to the hurricane some vessels may be re-routed and we can expect some delays.
As soon as possible after the storm, WWL will issue an updated vessel schedule that will attempt to reconcile some of the delays and other challenges that will impact cargo transport. The situation remains fluid and changes by the hour. You may rest assured, however, that the entire WWL team is ready to act to the best interest of your cargo and, of course, the safety of our vessels and their crews.
Freightplus will keep you updated with detailed information on the status of our East Coast port operations as the storm unfolds. You may contact your account manager or WWL’s customer care group should you have any additional questions or concerns.
